Ville del Monte is a widely scattered fraction of the Trentino municipality of Tenno and consists of six individual districts named San Antonio, Calvola, Lago di Tenno, Mattoni, Pastoedo and Canale. The Ville del Monte are located north of Riva del Garda , above the castle and the main town of Tenno, on a winding but well-developed road towards the Ballino Pass .Canale is a district of Ville del Monte opposite the Bocca Magnone , which has survived the centuries without major changes. On the southern slope of Monte Misone there are closely interlocked stone houses of a strikingly uniform Trentino architectural style. In 1967 the painter Giacomo Vittone opened his studio in Canale as one of the first “new residents”, when the village was largely deserted. Today the Casa degli Artisti is available to painters and sculptors from the region for undisturbed work in a nostalgic atmosphere.
