Notes

Val di Daone or more briefly Val Daone is an alpine valley in Trentino , crossed by the river Chiese . Its upper part is properly called Val di Fumo .
It extends for about 30 kilometers , with a difference in height of almost 2500 meters , wedging inside the Adamello mountain massif of which it represents one of the main valleys. Its entrance is located at 510 meters above the sea level, near the center of Creto (municipality of Pieve di Bono ) in the Giudicarie Valleys , while its head is the Passo della Val di Fumo, at 2939 meters above sea level, between the vast Adamello glaciers , from whose melting the Chiese originates.

In the highest part the valley has a north-south trend, to bend in a north-east-southwest direction in the part that precedes the lake of Malga Bissina. In these first two sectors the valley takes the name of Val di Fumo. The Rifugio Val di Fumo rises on a rocky spur not very high above the valley floor, at an altitude of about 1900 m asl. On the orographic left of the highest part of the valley, the mountains that surround it reach the highest altitude with Mount Carè Alto , whose summit reaches 3462 m asl. to the lake of Malga Boazzo. In its final part, where the village of Daone stands, it assumes a northwest-southeast direction.

Administratively the valley is largely included in the municipality of Valdaone . The most populated town is the hamlet of Daone . In the higher part, however, it is almost devoid of permanent human settlements but there are some mountain shelters and hotels. The valley is crossed by the provincial road SP27 which from Lardaro first passes through Daone, and then goes up the valley and up to 1789 meters above sea level of the lake of Malga Bissina , where it ends by transforming itself into a path on which the transit is forbidden to motorized vehicles.

An important feature of the valley are the lakes. In addition to the two large artificial basins, exploited for the production of electricity , which are the aforementioned lake of Malga Bissina and the lake of Malga Boazzo (located at 1224 meters above sea level), there are numerous small lakes of natural origin that dot the short and steep side valleys. Among them are to be mentioned the Nero lake (or Lago Scuro), located at 2150 meters at the foot of Mount Bruffione (2664 m), the lake of Campo (1944 m), the lake of Copidello (1968 m) and the lake of Casinei (2060 m).

As for sports connected with the mountain environment and mountaineering activities, Val di Daone is known above all for its waterfalls , which in the winter season become temples for ice climbing and are frequented by many fans of this mountaineering practice. The Val di Daone is also known for the practice of bouldering on the granite boulders present.
