Lodalen is a valley in Stryn district, Nordfjord, Norway, from Loen village along Lovatnet lake. The beautiful, untamed nature and the valley´s dramatic history make a visit to Lodalen an experience not to be missed. At the head of the valley lies Kjenndalsbreen glacier, which is the lowest-lying offshoot of Jostedalsbreen glacier. Further down the Lodalen valley lies a charming summer pasture farm called Breng.
Twice, great blocks of stone has fallen from Mt.Ramnefjell into the Lovatnet Lake. The floodwave that was created destroyed the villages of Nesdal and Bødal. 135 people lost their lives. The Lovatn lake is green because it contain clay particles and rock dust, carved out by glaciers and swept along by rivers. The glaciers are continuously crushing up rocks and stones. When the glacial water reaches the lakes and fjords, it looks green, especially when the sun shines.
The region is located in the northern part of Vestland county in Western Norway. It centers on the Nordfjorden and it comprises the municipalities of Selje, Vågsøy, Bremanger, Eid, Gloppen, Hornindal, and Stryn. The Nordfjord region covers an area of about 4,295 square kilometres (1,658 sq mi) and is home to a population (2010) of approximately 32,464.
The fjord is the sixth longest in Norway stretching 106 kilometres (66 mi) from the island of Husevågøy at the mouth to the village of Loen at the other end. The region encompasses the rough coastline of the Stadlandet peninsula to the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier. The region also includes the lake Hornindalsvatnet, Europe's deepest lake at 514 metres (1,686 ft) below sea level. The glacier Briksdalsbreen is particularly scenic. The Stryn area provides year-round alpine skiing, and there are numerous old fishing communities along the fjord going back to pre-Viking times.
