Artist biography

Born Ediniburgh 13 Decemver 1991. Educated there and at Trinity College Oxford. Studied at Edinburgh School of Art, Cope and Nicholl School, London and Academie Julian, Paris under J.P. Laurens. Exhibited RA, RSA, Paris Salon (Silver Medal 1926) 1911 - 38. Died London 12 March 1942.  Thomas Martine Ronaldson was born in Edinburgh on 13th December 1881. He was educated at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh and Trinity College, Oxford. He studied art at Edinburgh School of Art, at the Cope and Nicholl School in London and at The Academie Julian in Paris under J. P. Laurens. He won a SilverMedal at the Paris Salon in 1926. He lived in London for some years from 1908 and died on 12th March 1942. During his career as a portrait painter, he painted many notables, including the artist Anna Katrina Kinkeisen, this portrait is in the National Gallery of Schotland, and the Duchess of Newcastle. There are 21 of his portraits in the National Collection at various locations, which can be found by looking at bbc/your paintings on google. He exhibited widely 1905-1940, including 26 at the Royal Academy, 42 at the Royal Scottish Academy, 13 at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, and 18 at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, as well as variously in the provinces.
